Lt. Bob Garrett started his career in law enforcement with the Rutgers University Police in 1973. A graduate of the New Jersey State Police Academy, Sea Girt, he worked as a Patrolman and Detective and served a total of 13 years with the department. In 1986 he was recruited by the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office as a crime scene investigator. He attained the ranks of Sergeant and Lieutenant and became the supervisor of the crime scene unit, serving over 17 years with the agency.

Lt. Garrett has testified in court as an expert in fingerprint identification, crime scene reconstruction and crime scene investigation. He has given expert testimony in New Jersey, New York and Massachusetts. He has provided consultant and training services to small and major metropolitan police agencies as well as state and federal agencies. He is certified as a Senior Crime Scene Analyst, Certified Latent Print Examiner and is a Fellow of the Fingerprint Society of Great Britain.
Lt. Garrett has authored many articles relating to crime scene disciplines. He has been a lecturer at state, regional and international conferences. He serves on the editorial board of the "Journal of Forensic Identification"; 1st Vice President of the International Association for Identification; editor of "The Criminalist" and chairman of the NJIAI Crime Scene Certification Committee.
